Week Ending June 26, 2020 .  .  . TORONTO — "I Can’t Breathe" – That is the cry of George Floyd, a Black man, when a policeman placed his knee on George’s neck. It is the cry of many Black people when they are driving a nice car and is stopped by policemen for no reason. Or being highly educated and can’t find work or have to take minimum wage. Or when they enter restaurants, retail stores, etc. and won’t be waited on because Black people don’t have money or can’t afford the item. Black people have suffered and continue to suffer. This has got to stop. Every time something happens, we demonstrate and they give Black people a little stride, just enough to quiet us down. What do you think when a dog's life is worth more than a Black life?…..Take your knees of our necks. . . . . Black Lives Matter. . . . Until next week, Peace! [paige/nufftings]

Week Ending June 24, 2020 .  .  . TORONTO — Together We Are One  — Coronavirus (Covid-19): Canada has agreed to open the marketplace on June 24 as part of its Stage 2 phase. The coronavirus began somewhere in China in 2019 and hit the rest of the world in 2020. In Canada we began seeing signs in January and the virus became a pandemic by the middle of March. The entire country and the rest of the world was shutdown including the borders, airport, trains, parks, workplace, etc. Also closed were churches, funeral congregations, concerts … anything that held a crowd. Essential workers, frontline workers, and many more were the only ones working. All other businesses were closed – no hairstylists, barbers, shopping except for supermarkets. The streets were vacant. Each and everyone were told to “stay home, stay safe”. We were advised to wear a mask, wash our hands and practice social-distancing. Every province had been hit with the Virus. The places hardest hit were Quebec and Ontario. The residents of long-term care, ages 50+ were infected the most. People were dying. According to news reports, over 10 million persons were infected and more than 1 million died from the virus worldwide. But we are a resilient people. Together we are one. One people, One Nation, One World, One God (or whatever you chose to call him). . . . . Until next week, Peace! [paige/nufftings]

Week Ending October 22,  2018 .  .  .  TORONTO — Election Day was October 22. Toronto Mayor John Tory was re-elected for a second term. So did Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga. However, Patrick Brown, former leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, was elected Mayor of Brampton (the City above Mississauga). Charmaine Williams, the first Black woman to be elected to Brampton City Council. She will be representing  Wards 7 and 8. Williams is a small business owner and is wheelchair bound. . . . Patrick Brown was elected leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party in 2015. He was ousted from the post in January, 2018 due to allegations of sexual misconduct, which he empathy denied. Brown was prevented from running for the regional chair of Peel, when Doug Ford, now the Premier of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, cancelled the election. Then on July 27 he registered for Brampton's election. Brown recently got married. Now, the powers that be might have felt that no unmarried person should hold a higher office. It does not matter whether you are happy or sad in your marriage. So long as you are married. Now he is back. . . . "Hard man fi dead". See you back at Queen's Park, when the time is right. . . . . . Until next week, Peace!

Week Ending October 17, 2018 .  .  .  TORONTO — Between Friends: Legalization of Marijuana in Canada  — Effective immediately, smoking, buying, growing, consuming and carrying a limited amount of recreational marijuana / cannabis is legal in Canada. The use of ganja / cannabis is associated with religion, culture, spirituality, medicinal and economic values. This concerns adults over 19 years old. According to the federal government, cannabis is not allowed in public places, workplace, vehicle or on a boat. The federal government promise to pardon those in prison for possession of 30 grams or less of marijuana. (Supply & Demand). . . . Now I am not a lover or user of "weed / ganja". The smell / aroma gives me a headache or maybe it is a sign of being "high". Neither do I hang around people that smoke cannabis or use drugs for the same reason. However, if you use it in any form, then legalization is welcome for you. . . . While in my country of birth, friends would not smoke "weed / ganja" if they knew I was coming for a visit.  However, on the other hand, I have heard and seen what weed does to individuals. . . . There were a group boys who were very good in school, more gifted. Then came exam time, they wanted to study and retain more. So they decided to try "weed / ganja". They were superb. Passed with flying colours. The sad part was that some individuals got hooked on the weed. These boys use "weed / ganja" every spare moment that they were out of school. They started to missed class(es)/school to smoke. Their grades went down and they achieve failing grades. Now they were on the streets. Sometimes when  you see them, they are dirty - clothes, shoes, hair, they do not brush their teeth, etc. They are on the streets begging for scraps or in the garbage looking for food. Eventually they start showing signs of "mental illness". Parents do not know where they are. Their friends avoid them. Beautiful life wasted. . . . Now that I have children that are smokers, I am very concern for them. Nicotine is addictive. So is ganja. I am giving legalization 4 years, then they will be more changes. . . . . . Until next week, Peace!

* NUFF TINGS A GWAAN IN T-DOT *

Week Ending March 15,  2012 .  .  .  TORONTO — Between Friends – Integrity [Definition: someone who always behaves honestly and according to firm moral values and principles.]  — Most of us of the “baby boomers” age, come from a world where honesty and moral values and principles is part of ones self-esteem. When the average citizen deals with civil servants, i.e. government employees (all levels), banks and employees, schools, personal assistant, social workers, etc they expect that the people they come in contact with are “bonded”. They would never compromise their jobs for a few dollars. Over the years, something has changed. What caused the change – Outsourcing? Hiring practices? Relaxed immigration rules? Dealing with people in Call Centres, instead of the actual personnel at the source? Whatever it is, we as a “society” are in turmoil. The name of the game is “Fraud”. We also look to those civil servants who uphold the laws to be of the highest integrity. And those at the top – Prime Minister, Premier, Mayor – dictates the type of relationship one has with average citizens, i.e. lead by example. Therefore, as civil servants, one must not deviate from our oath of trust. Yet, if the one at the top bend the rules, then everyone below him/her is going to attempt to bend some rules or the other. These people/”thieves” operate without rules. — Take for instance, on the ranch there were rules, two gun fighters were given the rules of the game. Do not shoot the other in the back. Take ten steps away from each other then turn and draw your guns. — These “thieves” are unscrupulous and have no moral values and principles. They will murder a person in their sleep for a dollar. In the age of computers, one has to be sure whom you are giving your personal information to over the telephone, in person or on the computer. . . . An individual goes to the bank and expect to be served by a “bonded” bank employee. However, the clerk behind the counter is a person with a “shaded past”. The individual then unknowingly provide their confidential information to this clerk. The thieves then organize with their colleagues/friends to go to another bank pretending to be the person on file and accessing their account using all the information gathered. Their only intention is to rob individuals of everything they have worked for. . . . Social workers, support workers, personal caregiver, etc are civil servants. So why are there so many “thieves” among them?  After a child is removed from his/her home for whatever reason. The child, a “naive” individual (usually under 18 years old and not street-wise) is placed in the care of one of these “unscrupulous” social worker, etc. They search and find a job for the child/individual. Then the Bossman/woman, demand the “gullible one” do a tiny favour for them, e.g. duplicate some SIN cards, Credit Cards, and so on (all reported in the local newspapers). It is illegal, but no one is going to find out. So they think!  Then there is an Audit and the “gullible one” is arrested. S(he) cannot call any names because Bossman/woman has threatened to eliminate (kill) the entire family, and s(he) takes the fall (goes to prison) all by herself/himself. Bossman/woman moves on to the next “gullible one”. In our opinion, Bossman/ woman should also go to prison, as s(he) is the mastermind and knows whom the cards were distributed to. However, the law does not work like that. Can’t prove it. In an effort to discredit individuals, these thieves are quick to tell anyone who will listen that the person is not who they say they are. Their motive is to keep any money/assets seized for themselves. While the beneficiary walk the streets penniless, in isolation and being abused?. . . . We live in a country where certain people are placed in zones of poverty, profiled and targeted. It can only happen once or twice, then the targeted stop talking and acting stupid. They have learnt. Lessons taught the hard way. . . . Thank you Mr. Emile Timmermans for caring, the assistance you provided and for not thinking the lady was mentally unstable. . . . Until next week, Peace! [P.S. TCHC has issued an eviction notice to another 81 year-old. Al Gosling, 81, died because of this. We are watching.]
